A TEAM of apprentice firefighters are preparing for an epic cycle ride, but they won’t be leaving Reading.
The rookies from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service will be undertaking an 80km (50-mile) trip, but on static bikes set up in The Oracle Shopping Centre.
The route length echoes the 80th anniversary of The Fire Fighters Charity, whom they are raising funds for. They hope to collect £8,000, and have already received pledges of nearly £1,500.
The charity supports the health and wellbeing of serving and retired fire and rescue service personnel, their dependants, and other eligible members of the UK fire services community, throughout their lives, helping them to live happier and healthier.
The event starts at 10am on Saturday, October 28, but donations are already being taken via special Just Giving page. Search the website for: RBFRS Apprentices 2023, 80 Kilometres for 80 Years.
