MEMBERS of the Reading branch of the Berkshire Family History Society will be holding their next meeting online, and it will look at how military connections can help with ancestry.
Captain Graham Bandy of Living Military History will speak on the theme of Getting to know your army ancestors through photographs and memorabilia.
The group says that often, family tree researchers may only have a battered old wartime photo, a medal or some pages from an old paybook.
The talk aims to provide the skills needed to unlock the information contained in these clues to figure out which regiment they served in.
It will be illustrated by Capt Bandy using a wide selection of military images and artefacts and will take participants through the basics of identifying uniforms, medals, regiments and rank accompanied by hints and tips for follow-up research.
A question and answer session will take place at the end of the talk.
The meeting will take place using online conferencing software Zoom, from 7.15pm for a 7.45pm start on Thursday, February 29. It will be recorded.
Places are free for members of the society, and a donation of at least £5 for non-members.
Due to taking place online, pre-booking is required. Registration ends the day before the event.
