Whilst much of the County suffered at the weekend from thunder, heavy rain and roads flooding, the residents of Theale avoided it all.
This was particularly welcomed by members of Theale Golf Club as it was the weekend of their pre-eminent competition, The Club Championship.
This is a two-day competition over a weekend. After the end of Saturday’s play, the tee timings for the Sunday’s games depends on each players score and the three lowest are the last one’s out.
Two of this year’s last trio were hardened competitors who may have thought the Championship was going their way with a lead on their much younger companion. Zester Harvey is only 18 years old, but despite his age and the fact that he had only joined the club 2 years ago, Zester is no novice. He has been playing golf since he was 4 years old.
The other embers watching outside the club house could tell as the trio approached the 18th hole, who was going to take the trophy home. Zester had the remarkable score of 143 for the 36 holes to become the youngest members ever to win the Championship.
