The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for snow across Berkshire as Storm Goretti moves into the region.

The warning is due to come into force at 17:00 GMT on Thursday and will remain in place until midday on Friday. Forecasters say conditions could become hazardous, particularly for drivers, as snowfall and icy surfaces affect roads.

Residents are being advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts, as weather warnings can change at short notice.

Motorists are urged to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling, with tyres in good condition and all windscreens and windows fully cleared of ice. Drivers are also being reminded to allow extra stopping distance in snowy or icy conditions.

Safety advice has also been issued for households during the cold spell. People using open fires are advised to use fireguards to prevent sparks, while electric heaters should be unplugged before going to bed or leaving the property. The use of hot water bottles in the same bed as an electric blanket is also discouraged, even if the blanket is switched off.

Further cold weather guidance is available on the council’s website, while the latest warnings and forecasts can be found via the Met Office.
