Fans have been speculating over the future of Yakou Meite all summer with the potential return for the Ivorian to Reading on the lips of many fans.
Meite is available as a free agent having been released by Cardiff City this summer following their relegation from the Championship to League One.
Meite posted a picture on his Instagram account of him wearing a Reading training shirt with the caption ‘In the tank’ as he looks to build his fitness ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
While he is yet to sign with a club, several reports have linked him with a move back to Berkshire.
Meite is still a very popular figure among players, staff and fans and was spotted on the pitch at the end of Reading’s last home game of the 2024/25 campaign as he greeted his former teammates, staff and their families.
The Ivory Coast international joined Reading back in 2016 on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain.
He spent seven seasons with Reading and played a total of 165 games in all competitions and netted 47 times.
He had a tougher time after leaving Reading on a free to join Cardiff and managed just five Championship goals in 72 appearances for the Bluebirds.
It is yet to be seen whether the Royals will make a move to bring Meite back to the club while Noel Hunt is still keen on bolstering his attack before the season begins.
