Former Reading FC favourite Yakou Meite has signed for a new club which puts an end to any speculation that he may be returning to the Royals.

Meite had been available as a free agent all summer since being released by Cardiff City following their relegation from the Championship to League One.

It’s understood that Reading did explore the option of bringing the Ivorian back to the club, but decided to pursue other options.

The 29-year-old has now joined Saudi Pro League side Damac. They finished in 14th position in the Saudi Pro League last season.

Meite joined Reading in 2016 on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain and established himself as an important player throughout his six seasons in Berkshire.

He played a total of 165 games in all competitions and scored 47 goals.

After his contract with Reading expired in 2023 following Reading’s relegation to League One, he joined Cardiff in the Championship.

He struggled to replicate the goalscoring form he had shown with Reading and netted just five times in 72 games for the Bluebirds.
