A second successive win and clean sheet saw Woodley United Ladies move up to third place in the league in a match that saw all the goals come in an 11 minute first half spell.

Having weathered Kidlington’s early long ball and pace that saw the visitors Elisha Cox have an early goal disallowed due to the forward becoming active following Jen Heine’s initial parry from a shot,.

United took control of the game with Heine having little to do, such was the performance of the defence.

The visitors had a scare when a stretching Gemma Simms put the ball over Kidlington’s cross bar following a Charley Evans cross.

It was Simms who opened the scoring in the 19th minute when she headed past Kidlington’s keeper Emily Murphy from May Hamblin’s comer.

This was followed three minutes later when Mollie Haines passed to the overlapping Evans whose cross from the right hand side was inch perfect to allow Maddie Sawyer to score her first ever headed goal.

May Hamblin was a constant threat to the visiting defence and it was no surprise when the forward won a penalty.

From the spot kick Sophie Measham completed the scoring when her shot found the net.

The second half saw Hamblin denied by Murphy in a one on one situation while good play between Evans and Sarah Lawrence saw the latter pass to Sawyer who saw he shot rebound back into play from the cross bar.

Recent signing returning Woodley player Bonnie Messitt found herself in good positions but was unable to convert her chances into goals.

Woodley United: Heine, Evans (Routledge), Wilkins, Quinn (Messitt), Simms, Surtees, M Haines, Sawyer, Benton (Lawrence), Measham, (Stringer), Hamblin

Goals: Simms, Sawyer, Measham (pen)
