A BALLOON race is to take place in Woodley during half-term, but there’s no point in watching the skies, as it takes place virtually.

Woodley CofE Primary School’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is organising the event, which runs for seven days from noon on Tuesday, February 14.

People buy a digital balloon which will be sailed around the world. The one that travels the furthest is the winner.

Participants can toggle settings of their virtual balloon, including helium content, rubber thickness and shape to maximise their chances of success.

The balloons can also be decorated, and then tracked via Google Maps once launched.

The software used for the races uses live weather data to determine the progress of each balloon.

What is Mediation?

Because it is digital, there is no harmful single-use plastic used to create the balloons.

Money raised from the event will help fnd reading, writing and maths packaged used by the school’s pupils.
