Woodley Pensioners over 50s walking football squad conclucded their campaign by winning promotion to the first division.
With winter seemingly relinquishing its icy grip last Sunday, the Woodley Pensioners squad completed their current season with a fourth visit to Bisham Abbey.
Playing with a spring in their step they achieved two wins, two draws and suffered just one loss owing to a solitary late goal. Shooting prowess was on show again by Waight who netted three times in the opening six minutes of the first fixture.
Desombre, a recent addition to the club, has rapidly established himself as a reliable asset between the sticks and his performance on the day was characteristically solid.
The remaining members of the seasoned eight-man squad all contributed their individual strengths to support the team effectively over the five matches.
These results added to a foundation of excellent performances in previous months and enabled the team to consolidate their position at the top of the division.
Ending the day as Second Division champions and eleven points clear of their nearest rivals the team must now look ahead to the forthcoming season with will begin next month.
Promotion to the First Division will certainly bring new challenges but the players appear to have sown seeds of optimism and will hope to blossom as they embark on this new challenge.
As the days lengthen and stronger sunlight brings welcome warmth, springtime will also see the commencement of a new series of league matches for the Over 60s and Over 65s squads.
The Woodley Pensioners will be competing in all age groups, looking to celebrate more success and, more importantly, continuing to enjoy the fun, delight and friendship that this growing sport brings.
