A woman has been sentenced to a hospital order under the mental health act after a Thames Valley Police investigation into the death of a young boy in Berkshire.
Akanksha Adivarekar, 37, of Dunholme End, was sentenced on 11 December at Reading Crown Court. She received a hospital order with restrictions under the Mental Health Act after pleading guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility during a hearing on Wednesday, 3 December.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, 10 June, when officers were called to an address in Dunholme End. Sadly, four-year-old Agustya Hegishte was found deceased at the scene.
A major crime investigation was launched by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, and Adivarekar was arrested on the same day. She was charged with murder on 18 June.
Detective Inspector Rob Underhill, leading the investigation, expressed his condolences: “First and foremost, our thoughts remain with Agustya’s family following what has been a truly devastating loss. Today’s sentencing brings a complex and challenging investigation to its conclusion and reflects the dedication of our officers and staff in establishing the full circumstances of that day. We hope this outcome provides the family with some sense of closure and the space and privacy they need to grieve.”
