Twyford Drama group is offering a different take on Agatha Christie plays – with a comedy which pokes gentle fun at them.
The title says it all – Agatha Crusty and the Village Hall Murders. The play by Derek Webb is being performed at Loddon Hall, Twyford on October 6-8 at 8pm.
Director Ruth Reynolds said: “It’s an amusing and gentle take on the whodunnits of Dame Agatha Christie and the genre of British crime literature and drama that she inspired.
“The play is full of delightful characters and comic interactions. Despite the inevitable theme of murder, this is a comedy, poking gentle fun at the likes of Miss Marple and Poirot.
“Taking the setting of a village hall (very familiar to us as a community theatre group!) and filling it with a range of characters, all of whom might (or might not) have done it, has been a delight.
“We hope you will join us and see if you can work out who the culprit or culprits are. The clues are there.”
The group made a successful post pandemic return to the stage with Ladies’ Day in May. They say their Agatha Crusty play will keep the mood light hearted.
Tickets are available via the Twyford Drama website at www.twyforddrama.co.uk. It is an amateur production by arrangement with Stagescripts Ltd.
Readings and auditions for the group’s panto are on October 11 and 13. Anyone who enjoys singing and dancing can join in the fun. They would like more people to join them in acting and support roles, saying the group is “a really good mixture of social and drama. Over the years countless friendships have been established and even a few romances.”
