Reading FC look to have another young prodigy on their hands after 16-year-old Andre Garcia was handed his first league start in the win over Burton Albion.

With the Royals’ squad short for first-team depth, Selles has often turned to the club’s academy for a resolution and has seen several promising players break into the first-team during his time in charge.

The latest on the production line is Garcia who played 86 minutes at left-back in the 3-1 victory on Tuesday night.

Despite his age, Selles reiterated that he had no doubts about playing Garcia from the start.

He said: “Andre has been training really hard since March.

“I see Andre as a full first-team player and he is developing and growing.

Leam Richardson appointed as new Reading FC manager

“We didn’t have any doubts about putting him in as we didn’t have any doubts about putting him on the pitch before. I think he did a good job.”

With left-back options for the manager limited due to the injury to Jeriel Dorsett, it is likely that Garcia will be given more minutes in the upcoming weeks.

The Royals are away at Rotherham in their next League One outing before the latest international break takes place.
