Reading FC manager Ruben Selles believes there is plenty of room for improvement from his side despite their 4-1 victory over Crawley Town.
Amadou Mbengue, Lewis Wing, Charlie Savage and Sam Smith were all on the scoresheet to help the Royals to three points, however Selles was not pleased with all aspects of the performance.
“I don’t think the performance was there from us, we have so much more to offer,” Selles said.
“We will take the three points but if we want to be competitive then we have to do more. We should be able to control the game better.”
Speaking on Lewis Wing’s exceptional strike from 35 yards, Selles said: “Every player has their super strengths and one of Wing’s super strengths is to shoot from distance when he has the space. It’s unbelievable and it made things easier for us.”
Selles also spoke about some of the younger players in his squad after Basil Tuma, Jayden Wareham and Shay Spencer were each given valuable minutes from the bench.
He continued: “They earned the right to be there. Jayden is waiting for his moment as a nine, Basil Tuma has been growing up a lot in the winger position.
“Shay is a really special player, playing as a six mainly. We needed him as an eight, controlling the ball, scanning and finding passes between the lines and the way he defends in the counter press. It’s all that we need in a player.
“We think they deserve to have minutes and it was the ideal scenario today.”
The Royals are up against Exeter City on Tuesday night.
