READING FC manager Ruben Selles expressed his understanding as the fans protested against club owner Dai Yongge during the team’s victory over Bolton Wanderers.
Second-half goals from Charlie Savage and Caylan Vickers ensured the Royals picked up three points.
The fans showed their dismay at the ownership by throwing tennis balls onto the pitch in the 16th minute.
Despite conceding moments after the disruption, Selles does not believe the protest impacted matters on the pitch.
“It should not be disruptive because we knew it was coming. We talked about it to adjust in the first 15 minutes. We had problems with those balls a couple of times before the goal.
“I don’t think it was especially because of the disruption. We don’t make that excuse.”
Selles also expressed his understanding and sympathy with the fans for their frustrations.
He continued: “ I have my own feelings about it. I’m losing points on the pitch.
“I completely agree with the protest, we have to be better in that aspect.
“We need to be better in that aspect to stop losing points because we don’t do the things we need to as a football club. We need to do our job.
“We are the first one that feels the club needs to do better in terms of finances. We completely understand and have the same feeling.”
The Royals boss was also delighted with the character of his team to comeback to win three points.
He said: “I’m very proud of the players. They not only showed football character throughout the entire week but focus on the game.
“The victory is important and it’s important the way we do things and get the victory. More than the victory is the team spirit we showed today.
“We know in the long term this team is going to be successful because we have an amazing dressing room.”
