WATER is gushing on to an east Reading road this evening – Saturday, January 20 – after a leak sprung up.

Thames Water has been called to Wokingham Road at its junction with Eastern Avenue to deal with the leak, which is bubbling up on the junction itself.

Residents in Newtown have been reporting water pressure issues across the day, with some unable to get hot water.

The issue was first raised on Thursday, January 18.

The water company said it has investigated the leak and is planning the repair, and may need to close the road. If it has to do so, it needs to work with Reading Borough Council on the scheduling.

It warns that repairing the leak might involve turning water off for a short period of time.

However, it is not the only issue affecting the network.

Postcodes across the RG1 and RG30 area are being hit by a problem at its Pangbourne Water Treatment Works.

The company says it has identified the issue and its engineers are working to fix it.

Earlier today, it opened bottled water stations in Calcot and Tilehurst to help any affected residents, as well as delivering supplies to customers on its priority service register.

If the problem is not fixed overnight, the water stations will reopen tomorrow.
