Labour held Battle ward, with Amjad Iqbal Tahir Tarar receiving 1,374 votes. He will replace the retiring Gul Khan.

Dr John Grout

Dr John Grout has lived in Reading for 16 years and works in the telecoms industry, having previously studied archaeology and served as a governor of a local primary school.  If elected, his priorities will be to minimise homelessness in our Borough, and to improve the state of its roads and paths for all users.  He is keen to increase participation in local democracy.

John opposes NatWest’s proposed closure of their branch in Tilehurst, and is supporting the Liberal Democrats’ petition to keep banking services in the west of Reading

Reading Green Party is standing councillors across Reading

Callum Harling has lived in Battle Ward in Reading for 10 years. He has a master’s degree in Environmental Management from Reading University. He works for a trade union, and is passionate about environmental issues and making a difference in the community. In his spare time, he is a regular runner and volunteer at Prospect park run and also enjoys football.

Amjad Tarar

Amjad Tarar lives locally and works as a solicitor. He has been a very active Labour party member for many years. His children attend local schools and Reading University.  Amjad is a dedicated community worker and serves as the Secretary of the Pakistan Community Centre in Reading. He has helped people across communities in Reading with social and family problems, particularly assisting women suffering domestic violence.

Amjad has a belief in community harmony and has facilitated interfaith events which can build bridges between different faith communities across Reading.

If elected as a councillor Amjad will seek to liaise between the Council and residents to resolve parking and waste collection issues across Battle Ward. He will press the Highways Department to use government grant money to fix the potholes in our streets. He will work with local police to eradicate the evil of antisocial behaviour and for the safety of residents. Amjad loves Reading having clean air and being neat, clean, and tidy. He supports safe cycling and is campaigning for more cycle lanes.  Amjad will stand ready to represent all residents, believing that he stands for the many, not the few.
