Shelter’s vision, since 1966, was to establish an organisation to speak for the millions of ‘hidden homeless’ living in overcrowded slums and since then they won’t stop until there’s a safe, secure, affordable home for everyone!

They are currently looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join their Community Fundraising Team that can join in at an upcoming bucket collection event, to help raise money during the Winter fundraising period!

The fundraising event coming up will be at the Reading Train Station on Friday the 13th of December, between 4 – 6 pm. You won’t be alone, you’ll be in a team of other fundraising volunteers and you’ll be supported by one of their Community and Events Assistants to help create an energetic, fun and friendly atmosphere to gather donations!

SSAFA, Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen’s Families Association was established in 1885 and helps the armed forces community in a number of ways, though their focus is on providing direct support to individuals in need of physical or emotional care.

They are currently seeking a Lead Teacher for their Gurkha Ladies Project! A group of volunteers set about teaching a mixture of English and other basic skills in a nurturing and happy environment, raising confidence, so that they could shop, visit the doctor, talk to the local council and more.

They are now looking for a new lead to take this very successful project into its second decade, full support will be given including the provision of worksheets while the new lead is settling in. Sessions are between 12 – 2 pm on Tuesdays, at Wycliffe Baptist Church.

Enrych Berkshire is a Registered Charity that provides support to people with a disability, helping them get access to leisure, social and learning activities.

Right now Enrych is seeking a sociable volunteer with an interest in gardening with availability in the afternoons. One of their members would appreciate somebody helping her in her garden. The aim is to increase the member’s social circle and enable her to enjoy her garden more.

The member in question would happily join in and do as much as she can with the gardening tasks but needs to be sitting. Also, while it is not a requirement, she is also keen on learning languages, if that’s something you can also provide advice and assistance with you would be perfect for this role.

Take a look at our brand new Reading Volunteer Connect platform for details of these and many more opportunities to volunteer via our website, www.rgneeds.me. Want to get in touch? Drop us an email at volunteering@rva.org.uk or call 01189 372 273
