Reading Climate Action Network is Reading’s main climate action group.
They’re hosted by the Council and run by volunteers. Convening people from the community, business, academia and the public sector to design our town’s response to the climate emergency. They are preparing now to engage Reading in the design of the town’s climate plan for 2025 – 2030.
They are currently looking for a volunteer to join them and provide WordPress support.
They have a website but they want help making it more agile and engaging – especially the home page.
Could you help them get a carousel on the home page and generally support a round of engaging updates for this Year of Climate Engagemen’?
Time commitment would be two to three hours a week, with the option to contribute additional hours if possible.
Deafblind UK has existed since 1928, when a small group of deafblind people and their carers founded the National Deaf Blind Helpers League.
Since then, throughout the decades, the organisation has worked with people who are deafblind, encouraging confidence and providing practical help.
They want to recruit more Wellbeing Volunteers, their volunteers contact a range of different members every week to make a friendly ‘check in’ call and have a chat.
During these calls, you’ll provide the opportunity for the members to talk, offer friendly support and make them aware of the Deafblind UK services available to them.
This is a home-based role so you don’t need to be local and you don’t need experience to become one of the Wellbeing Volunteers, you just need to be comfortable chatting over the phone. Deafblind UK provides full training and ongoing support in this role and is asking for a minimum commitment of three months.
For more than 30 years Reading Frontline is a charity that serves the community by providing expert help to those who are under the burden of debt, often through no fault of their own.
They specialise in offering independent, expert benefit advice, in addition to debt and budgeting advice.
Right now, they have a vacancy for a Volunteer Debt and Benefit Adviser, who would work one day per week from their offices in the centre of Reading.
You will be working with clients distressed by the burden of debt, so a sympathetic and patient approach is a must. Basic finance and budgeting skills would also be helpful.
A basic knowledge of the software Word and Excel with general computer literacy and keyboard skills are needed.
Full training and ongoing support will be provided to new volunteers.
Back-up and support are always available as you work through clients’ problems.
Take a look at our Reading Volunteer Connect platform for details of these and many more opportunities to volunteer via our website, www.rgneeds.me. Want to get in touch? Drop us an email at volunteering@rva.org.uk or call 0118 937 2273.
