Every Wednesday the Whitley Wood over 50s Club provides a hot meal, activities and opportunities to socialise for older people in the local area.
They are seeking volunteers to join their small committed team to help with a range of tasks. These include:
– Setting up and putting away tables and chairs and the start and end of the sessions.
– Welcoming and chatting with the club’s members as they arrive.
– Helping out with the serving of lunch, tea, coffee and snacks.
– Supporting members to get involved with weekly activities.
There is the potential for the role to be split between a number of volunteers, one helping with just the set-up and tidying with another helping with club activities.
Your help will ensure that this vital club can continue to thrive.
The Hygiene bank believes it’s not right that anyone should experience hygiene poverty. They take action by raising awareness to drive meaningful change.
Part of this involves collecting donations from people and businesses in the local area and redistributing these to those who would benefit via local community partners.
The team at Reading’s Hygiene bank are seeking volunteer driver who can collect donations from their donation points around the Reading area and deliver them to their local storage location.
They currently have eight donation points which each need collecting from once or twice a month. Collections can be done at any time the stores are open.
The donations can be heavy, so the volunteer for this role will need to be fit and able to carry bags which are approximately 10kg.
They will also need a full driving licence and access to their own vehicle.
Mileage is not paid, but parking fees can be reimbursed.
Macmillan Cancer Support are seeking volunteer buddies who can help provide emotional support to people living with cancer to help them to feel less isolated and lonely. Buddies might also provide help with practical tasks that a person living with cancer may temporarily be having trouble with.
There are two types of buddy volunteer – a Community Buddy who supports people in their homes or local community and a Telephone Buddy, who support people by phone. Ideal volunteers for this role will be good listeners with good communication skills, be patient, flexible and reliable with the ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding whilst maintaining boundaries.
They will also need good IT skills in order to access required systems and resources.
Volunteers will receive an induction, training, and support you need to carry out your role. You need to be 18 or over to apply for this opportunity.
