Thrive use gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill-health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable. They are seeking volunteers to support the client gardeners who participate in their programmes.

The role will involve tasks such as; working alongside client gardeners encouraging, talking, demonstrating, or guiding the individuals, supervising, with others, the client gardener group over lunch breaks and occasionally when the practitioners are engaged in assessing and related paperwork, watching out for the Health and Safety of those you are working with.

Volunteers for this role will need to be patient and understanding with a commitment to being supportive and companionable.

They will need to be flexible as tasks may need to change, and client gardener’s behaviour may be surprising or erratic.

And they will need to be reliable, for both the practitioners and the client gardeners this is important for continuity and trust.

Reading’s Older People’s Working Group is hosting Older People’s Day 2023 on Monday, October 2, at the Broad Street Mall.

The event will officially start at 9.30am and will run until 3pm.

They are seeking helping hands to help make the event a success.

There will be a number of roles available on the day and volunteers will be helping with set up from 8.30 am, welcoming visitors, promoting the event in the town centre, signposting visitors to the various information stalls, gathering surveys and feedback about the event.

No previous experience or specific skills necessary, just a friendly nature and good verbal communication skills.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust are seeking to add to their Community First Responders (CFR) team in the Lower Earley, Whitley and Shinfield area of Reading.

CFRs are volunteers that are trained and despatched by South Central Ambulance Service, they provide essential life-saving treatment and support in those crucial minutes before the ambulance crews arrive.

When a 999 call is received in our Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), an ambulance response is dispatched.

At the same time, a CFR on-call in that area, can be alerted and asked to attend the incident to ensure that help reaches the patient as quickly as possible.

No previous medical training or experience is required as they will provide this but they do ask is that you have a caring attitude.

You will also need to be physically fit and healthy, able to carry out effective CPR for up to 20 minutes (after training) and a car owner with a full UK driving licence.

You need to be able to work well in a team as well as on your own, have good communication skills and passionate about helping South Central Ambulance Service.

Take a look at our Reading Volunteer Connect platform for details of these and many more opportunities to volunteer via our website, www.rgneeds.me. Want to get in touch? Drop us an email at volunteering@rva.org.uk or call 0118 937 2273.
