READING residents will have the opportunity to share their views and learn about the town’s university’s work at its upcoming Autumn Community Forum on October 17.
The University of Reading’s vice-chancellor, Prof Robert Van de Noort, will host the event, which will take place at The Pavilion on the Oxford Road.
The decision to hold the event off-campus was made following feedback from previous community forums.
Molli Cleaver, community engagement manager at the University of Reading, said: “The Community Forum is a great opportunity for local residents to hear directly from the University and Reading Students’ Union about our current and future planned activity within the community.
“It also provides residents with the chance to share feedback on our work and raise any issues they think need addressing. By hosting these events we can create better connections between the University and the town, and work through any challenges in a more collaborative way.
“We are excited to be hosting the upcoming Community Forum in Reading town centre and hope to see lots of new faces join us for this evening event.”
The event will include: an update on how the University has responded to feedback received at the Spring Community Forum, an introduction from the Friends of the University, a group discussion on community-led research, and an update from the Students’ Union.
The last part of the event will be conducted in break-out groups to discuss different elements of the University’s community activity, such as: environmental sustainability and climate change, student, staff and alumni volunteering, and University of Sanctuary status.
Anyone is welcome to attend the forum, but registration is essential with tickets available to book online.
This year’s community forum will take place from 6pm-8.30pm.
