THE UNIVERSITY of Reading has been named as a finalist in the inaugural National AI Awards.
The university is up for the AI Business of the Year award as part of an industry-academia collaboration with BT Group, Cardiff University, and the University of Reading.
The collaboration has developed an AI solution for BT Fleet Solutions, which has practical applications in visualising “potential pathways to failure” and aid transparent decision-making, developing more cost-effective maintenance policies, and forecasting for repair times to optimise maintenance scheduling.
It is led by Dr Shixuan Wang of the University of Reading, Professor Aris Syntetos of Cardiff University, and Dr Carla Di Cairano-Gilfedder of the BT Group.
The National AI Awards are now set to take place annually, aiming to identify and celebrate exceptional contributions to the field and provide a benchmark of excellence.
It is run by the same team as the National Cyber Awards, with BT as this year’s headline sponsor.
It also has categories celebrating AI use in gaming, energy and utilities, financial services, healthcare, retail, and high tech and telecoms.
It also recognises individual universities, other educational organisations and initiatives, as well as cyber security, innovation, and public safety.
Professor Simonetta Longhi, Head of the Department of Economics at the University of Reading, said: “We are thrilled that Dr Wang’s ground breaking work has been recognized at this national level.
“This achievement not only highlights the cutting-edge research happening at the University of Reading but also demonstrates our commitment to fostering industry partnerships that drive innovation and create real-world impact.”
