THE UNIVERSITY of Reading has teamed up with Reading-based think tank EARTH 51 to launch a new drive to foster responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.
The new programme aims to certify 1,000 students in responsible AI use in just 100 days.
The drive began on 11 February, with more than 300 students having already completed the CPD-certified training.
The initiative seeks to tackle a growing national challenge and a global concern over the harms of artificial intelligence.
AI is rapidly reshaping industries, and many UK workers lack formal AI training.
Even fewer understand responsible and ethical AI practices, including its effect on climate change and high-use of natural resources.
EARTH 51 says employers are increasingly demanding AI literacy alongside traditional degrees.
This 100-day programme is designed to respond at pace. Students gain structured training in practical AI use, governance, bias, sustainability and regulation, including the EU AI Act. The goal is clear: strengthen employability and close the skills gap.
Organisers hope the drive will extend its impact beyond the university– with Berkshire home to major technology firms and global employers, the initiative hopes to bolster Reading’s position as a centre for responsible AI capability and future innovation.
Akhil Handa, CEO of EARTH 51, said: “Artificial intelligence will define economic leadership for the next generation and by certifying 1,000 students in 100 days, EARTH 51 is helping Reading lead by example.
“The talent built here will drive innovation far beyond Berkshire.”
