THE UNIVERSITY of Reading has announced an unauthorised encampment on its Whiteknights campus.
Travellers moved onto the playing fields off Shinfield Road on Sunday morning, with vehicles pictured parked on the site.
In a post on social media, the university confirmed they are in conversation with the occupants and are ‘working with relevant authorities’.
The statement stated while the campus remains open to staff and students, several facilities including the SportsPark, bars, catering outlets and car parks 1A and 7 will remain closed until further notice.
The encampment comes just three weeks before new students are set to arrive for freshers’ week.
