TRIBUTES have been paid to former Radio 210 disc jockey Steve Wright, who has died.
The 69-year-old teamed up with Mike Read to present their own show on the Thames Valley station, Read and Wright.
It started in 1976, and continued until he left to go to Radio Luxembourg in 1979.
He joined BBC Radio 1 in 1980, launching his famous Steve Wright in the Afternoon show a year later.
In 1994, he switched to the breakfast show, before leaving for Talk Radio in 1995, and then BBC Radio 2 in 1996.
Initially recruited for weekends, he switched to weekday afternoons in 1999, until a revamp in 2022.
Last year, he took on the station’s Pick of the Pops show.
He also hosted a number of episodes of BBC One’s Top of the Pops, as well as The Steve Wright People Show in the mid-1990s.
He was presented with an MBE in the King’s New Year Honours list for services to radio.
Among those paying tribute was former Radio 210 host Graham Rogers, who tweeted:
He was one of the radio voices of my lifetime and continued to be one of my biggest inspirations. RIP #SteveWright and thank you. pic.twitter.com/QAA6Lutito

And Radio 210’s Twitter account shared an old recording from March 1976 where Steve welcomed Marc Bolan.
