A REPLICA of one of the most important historic artefacts in the world is housed in Reading, meaning people don’t need to travel to France to see it.
A team of Victorian residents created the facsimile – removing some of the rude bits in the process – and it is one of the pride and joys of Reading Museum in Blagrave Street.
It tells the story of the Norman conquest of Britain, leading up to the coronation of William the Conqueror and is one in the eye for the then king, Harold.
On Saturdays, it organised regular tours of the life-size recreation. People can book in advance or turn up, and places cost £5.50.
Each tour starts at 2pm.
