READING-BASED band Marisa and the Moths has topped the rock charts this week following the release of their latest album.

Released on Friday, May 3, What Doesn’t Kill You has shot to first place in the UK’s Official Rock and Metal Albums charts in only its first week.

It joins the likes of genre-defining albums such as Nirvana’s Nevermind (in 7th) and The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (in 2nd), as well as new material from Green Day and Linkin Park.

It also took the position from Pearl Jam’s latest album, Dark Matter, which has dropped to fourth place.

The news follows the band’s recent tour supporting Elvana on the festival circuit, as well as appearances at last year’s ReadiPop Festival and Are You Listening? festival, where the band played their first gig.

The band were seeking crowd-funding last year to help finance the album, their second full-length release following their breakout album, Damned If I Do, which released in January last year.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Marisa Rodriguez said: “This is an amazing achievement four years in the making and we’ve had line-up changes, life threatening injuries, and post-abusive relationship trauma to navigate–hence the album title.

“We always believed we could do it but now it’s here I don’t know how to take it all in.

“Honestly, our fans are the best and hopefully this is a platform for us to play some of the major festivals, like Download and Reading and Leeds.

“How good would it be for a home-grown rock band to be playing Reading this year.”
