READING Borough Council is calling on residents to help it name its fleet of all-electric waste collection vehicles, which already features The Waster Taster and Ricky Gerwaste.
The town’s creative minds will have the chance to submit their suggestions, with the winning name to be printed on one of the vehicles.
Powered by clean electricity generated by residents’ recycled food waste, each collection truck saves 32,000kg of greenhouse gas emissions each year compared to its diesel equivalent.
The competition was launched as part of Reading Climate Festival, a week of events from June 10-21, which is designed to inspire positive action on climate change.
Organisers hope it will help residents, businesses, schools and community groups find out how to live more sustainably and make changes that will contribute towards the council’s goal of a net zero, climate-resilient town.
Anyone who is a Reading resident or student at a Reading-based school can enter the competition.
Entries can be made online and will close on Monday, June 26.
