Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson gave his thoughts on the situation at Reading FC after their latest points deduction.

The Royals make the trip to face the side at the bottom of League One on Saturday.

The Royals were handed another two point deduction, taking their season total to six which has put them down to 20th in the table, just three points above the drop zone with the two teams directly below them with games in hand to play.

Ahead of their meeting at the weekend, Simpson said: “They might have that siege mentality that everybody’s against them, but it’s not everybody who’s doing things wrong financially.

“They’re the ones who have done it wrong.

“I feel for the players and staff a little because it’s probably not their doing.”

Reading beat Carlisle 5-1 in the reverse fixture at the Select Car Leasing Stadium back in November. That result helped lift Ruben Selles’ side of the bottom of the table.

The Cumbrians are still rooted to the bottom of the pile despite breaking their run of eight straight defeats with a midweek away win at fellow relegation battlers Burton Albion.

Paul Huntington’s 27th minute strike was enough to earn them a 1-0 success to give them some hope of survival.

Carlisle are on 23 points having won just five matches all season which puts them 13 points adrift of safety. They have 12 matches left to play this season.
