RESEARCH from the University of Reading is set to feature at the COP29 climate summit next week.
The 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) is set to take place in Bake, Azerbaijan, next week, and will feature both physical and virtual participation from the university.
From November 11-24, a team from the University’s Walker Institute will engage with global leaders, showcase their research, and contribute vital scientific insights to international climate policy discussions.
As well as a core team on the ground in Baku, the university will encourage broader engagement through remote attendance from its Whiteknights campus in Reading.
The Walker Institute has led the University’s COP involvement for nearly a decade and is an accredited official observer.
Institute representatives are co-hosting two events focusing on transboundary climate risks as part of the implementation of the COP28 Declaration on Climate, Relief, Recovery, and Peace.
Researchers will discuss methods and tools for viable climate adaptation options in fragile, conflict-affected settings on Thursday November 14, and on Saturday, November 16th, at the UN Pavilon.
Early-career environment scientists at Reading will participate in the COP Climate Action Studio (COPCAS) to engage with global climate policy discussions remotely.
Professor Rosalind Cornforth, Director of the Walker Institute, said: “COP29 comes at a crucial time in our fight against climate change.
“The global community faces urgent decisions about climate adaptation and mitigation.
“Our role is to ensure these decisions are grounded in robust scientific evidence, particularly regarding support for vulnerable nations.”
