A trio who ran old school indie music club events to raise funds for charity have been nominated for a Pride of Reading Award.
Neil Richards, Dan Winchester and Andy Stowell traditionally ran the Fools Gold money-raising club nights at the legendary After Dark Club in London Street, now closed. Later they ran one-off events at other Reading venues.
They have been nominated for the Fundraiser of the Year award, sponsored by Cream Design, which recognises an individual or organisation that has shown outstanding skills or dedication to creative and imaginative fundraising in Reading.
Among charities they have supported is the Messy Club, a mobile art group for children in Reading who have additional needs, said their nominator.
As a result, the club was able to provide art packs as well as Christmas gifts to families throughout lockdown, and their support also helped fund Messy Club Gold which is for elderly people in Reading.
She added they also raised money for a Music for Youth charity which was supported by After Dark doorman and telecoms manager ‘Mighty Man’ Dave Goddard who sadly passed away in 2021.
