UPDATE: The Oracle was closed and evacuated earlier today after reports of a diesel leak, the fire service has confirmed.
Firefighters from the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Oracle shortly after 12.30pm today, July 3, to tackle the leak, which was affecting electrical components.
The full statement reads:
“At 12:35pm on Monday, 3 July, we received reports of a diesel leak at a commercial premise at the Oracle Shopping Centre in Reading.
“A Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Wokingham Road Fire Station and one Officer were sent to the scene.
“Upon arrival firefighters found a diesel leak affecting electrical switch gear. The building was evacuated and safety cordons were put in place, before the incident was handed over to the responsible person and the Electricity Board.
“The crew was on scene for almost two hours.”

ONE OF Reading’s major shopping centres has been evacuated today, July 3.
The Oracle in Central Reading has been evacuated for an as of yet undisclosed reason, and is expected to remain closed for at least a few hours.
No official reason has been given, but representatives of The Oracle have confirmed that Royal berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is conducting an investigation.
