A GROUP of keen historians will hear about Jane Austen’s first Christmas, at their next meeting.
In the 250th anniversary year of the birth of Jane Austen, visiting speaker Joy Pibworth will discuss with members of The History of Reading Society. the author’s links to the Reading area.
Her talk will feature events that made Berkshire news 250 years ago.
The society is interested in all aspects of the history of the town.
Founded in 1978, it aims to cultivate an interest in the history of Reading and the surrounding area, and to bring together a collection of artefacts and documents to be made available to future generations.
Meetings are on the third Wednesday of the month (no meeting in August) at the Abbey Baptist Church (behind Reading Central library).
From December to February, meetings are held on Zoom (paid up members).
Doors and Zoom meetings open at 7.15pm, with talks at 7.30pm.
June and July’s meetings are outings (paid up members).
New members are always welcome, and visitors are warmly invited to in-person meetings for a small fee per attendance.
