AS PROCLAMATION ceremonies take place across the country today, Thames Valley Police has pledged to play its part in ensuring they all go smoothly.
In a statement, the force’s chief constable, John Campbell, said that everyone was part of a “momentous moment in history” as we mourn the Queen, and mark the start of King Charles III’s reign.
On Saturday, September 10, a meeting of the Privy Council saw the new monarch formally proclaimed by former Reading University Student Union president and leader of the privy council, Penny Mourdant.
Now, across the country similar ceremonies will take place today.
Reading will hold one for Berkshire at 1pm outside the town hall, before a second at 2pm, outside Reading Minister Church in Chain Street.
Wokingham’s will take place outside the RYND café in Market Place, and is organised by Wokingham Town Council.
Woodley Town Council will hold a ceremony at Centre Stage in the Crockhamwell Road shopping precinct at 12.30pm tomorrow, Monday, September 12.
Thames Valley Police says its officers will be joining residents and partners in marking the proclamation of the new King over the coming days.
Officers are working closely with local authorities and other partners to ensure those attending these events can do so safely.
“On behalf of us all at Thames Valley Police, I offer my sincerest best wishes to King Charles III on his accession to the throne,” said the chief constable.
“We have a long and proud history of serving and protecting the Monarch and we are privileged to continue this under his reign.”
