PERMISSION to sell alcohol is being sought for a new Tesco convenience store due to open in a new Reading housing development currently being constructed.
The Express shop will be part of the Huntley Wharf development, off The Forbury. This is on land that used to house Toys R Us and Homebase stores, but is now being converted into 765 homes.
Part of the complex will be for non-residential activity, including a nursery and retail units.
The development is currently part completed, with works undertaken by London and Quadrant (L&Q) and Berkeley Group.
There are three sections, with the central and eastern sections completed, with the western section, which fronts on to Kenavon Drive, still being built.
The Tesco Express will be built in this section, and is expected to open by the end of next year.
Work on the unit is currently taking place near the site office for one of the buildings still under construction, with the Tesco fronting on to Kenavon Drive, and have eight car parking spaces.
Ahead of its expected opening, the retailer has submitted a licensing application to sell alcohol and food from 6am until midnight seven days a week.
Other community facilities have been finished include Monkey Moos nursery, with the daycare company winning advertising consent for its sign in June.
A unit designated in plans as a yoga studio remains unoccupied, despite being available for occupation since the summer last year.
Comments on Tesco’s licensing application can be made by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk before Wednesday, August 30. Submissions are a matter of public record.
