TERRY DIXON is organising two walking tours of Reading to unpack its history and raise money for charity at the same time.
On Saturday, January 6, he will lead a guided walk around the Victoria Park community group.
He says this will cover an area of Reading that is not well known, but has grown from the 12th century, when it was abbey lands, through to Victorian times as a residential area and more.
There are just 20 places available, and they need to be booked in advance.
The meeting point is outside the Oxford Road Community School on Oxford Road at 9.50am. It will end at a cafe.
The second walk is on Saturday, January 13.
Hallowe’en Ghosts and Strange Goings On explores Reading’s spooky past. The walk starts at The Oasis in Baker Street and should end at the Rose and Thistle pub.
For both walks, people are asked to arrive 10 minutes early for a safety briefing.
Donations of between £5 and £10 per adult and £1 per child aged five or over are requested by Terry, who will give them to his two charities of the year: Home-Start Reading and The Reading Ukrainian Community Centre.
