CHRISTMAS in the 18th century is the focal point for a new talk coming to Reading Library.
Since her school days, Joy Pibworth has been a Jane Austen fan and will be sharing her research into what the festive season was like in 1775, the year of the famous writer’s birth.
It was a bleak midwinter, with festive goodies imported from around the world, while the country was subsumed in a war on foreign territory.
The talk has been organised by the Berkshire Family History Society, and will be held in The Centre for Heritage and Family History on Thursday, December 14, from 2pm.
Places cost £5.
