In division 1 clear favourites Kingfisher A further increased their lead with a 10-0 win over Our Lady of Peace A.

Justin Mead, Steve Murgatroyd and Mo Cook having no answer to the Kingfisher trio of Darren Jones, Hari Gehlot and Martin Adams, although Mo and Steve managed to win one game against Hari.

Sonning Common & Peppard A climb into second place after the same 10-0 winning score line against their B team, Gary Morgan, Jamie Barlow and Neil Hurford all getting maximums.

The other two matches played this week were much closer affairs. Julian Telford was awarded plyer of the match as Kingfisher D also maintained their challenge for runners up with a 6-4 victory but were made to work hard against two-player Kingfisher C team.

The points were shared when Tidmarsh A met Kingfisher B, with all players contributing either one (Lee Calcutt, Martin Pugh and Alan Cummings) or two (Anthony Baker, Simon Barter and Phil Mead) to the 5-5 score line.

The tightness of the match was exemplified when Anthony narrowly lost out on his maximum after being edged out by Martin Pugh 10-12 11-6 10-12 11-9 13-15.

Tilehurst RBL B had a 8-2 win over Kingfisher F in a match that was closer than the final score suggests. Tilehurst skipper John Willcocks recorded his first maximum of the season only dropping one game on the night, Hamid Mohseni won twice for Kingfisher including an excellent win in five against Kate Maksimenko.

Tilehurst Methodists A got a good 5-5 draw against Tidmarsh B despite having to play a reserve. Eric Van Looy got another maximum for Tilehurst but was pushed all the way by Barry Carter before winning 11-9 in the fifth.

Our Lady of Peace F hosted Kingfisher H and it was Kingfisher H who won 9-1 in a long game. Eyup Odemis claimed a well-deserved player of the match title with his first three wins in the season.

However, the highlight of the match was the great comeback from Ruben Hernandez in the last game of the match. In the 5th set, Ruben saved five match points when he was 10-5 down, and he won the game 12-10. With this comeback, Ruben also won his first maximum of the season. James Smith got OLOP F’s single point.

Cris Reynolds played his best table tennis and had game points in two of the three sets against Clive Taylor but failed to convert either. The only point for Sonning’s side came from Harry Brough. Harry saw off Leroy in four sets which rescued them from the whitewash.

In division 4 Sonning Common & Pepppard E beat Sonning Sports C 8-2, Anthony Reeve and Derek Brooke-Wavell were the hat trick men. Club mates Sonning Common & Peppard F also won 8-2 after they beat Our Lady of Peace G, Graeme Streets had a good night for the Commoners.
