A SUSHI takeaway in Reading town centre has applied to conduct late-night deliveries.
You Me Sushi opened in Friar Street back in 2022, and has been serving up sushi, hot dishes, poke bowls and drinks since then.
The company now wants to keep on selling food and drinks for takeaways and deliveries until 2am from Friday to Sunday.
This has been submitted in a licensing application to Reading Borough Council, as any business wishing to sell food and drinks between 11pm and 5am requires a premises licence.
The application dispels a suspicion that You Me Sushi could have been converted into a convenience store.
Back in December 2023, Pal Singh Chopra submitted an application to sell alcohol off the premises from 7am to 11pm each day of the week.
The application was addressed at 150 Friar Street, which You Me Sushi occupies.
Mr Singh Chopra was the owner of Reading Food & Wine at 146 Friar Street.
At the time, he said: “I have had five years running the business with no problems, nothing.
“We do not sell alcohol to people unless they are old enough, we have CCTV cameras in my shop and the whole time I keep the recordings.”
His application would have allowed him to sell alcohol at 7am, earlier than 8am on his existing licence.
Reading Food & Wine was completely demolished in January this year.
A statutory consultation into the 2am deliveries for You Me Sushi closes on Monday, December 8.
You can take part by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.
The demolition of 146 Friar Street has taken place as part of the Queen Victoria Street development, which involves the transformation of the area to create an apartment-hotel and new retail space.
