Reading FC kept up their charge for a play-off place by getting back to winning ways in League One with victory at Northampton.
Having gone three games in the league without a win, the Royals had lost some ground on the top six but managed to get back on track with success against the team in the relegation zone.
After a goalless first-half, it was Reading’s talisman Jack Marriott who struck with his 11th league goal of the season to put his side ahead.
New forward Will Keane then made the game more comfortable just a few minutes after Marriott’s opener for the visitors when he met Lewis Wing’s cross to head home for his second goal in as many games.
The result moves Reading onto 40 points from 28 games. The Royals are on the road again next weekend when they travel to face another relegation battling side, AFC Wimbledon who are in 18th place but only one point above the drop zone.
