FOLLOWING The Met Office’s upgrading of Storm Eunice to a red alert, Reading Borough Council has advised residents to avoid all non-essential travel.
As a result, all schools in the borough have been advised to close.
It is also cancelling waste collections on Friday, February 18.
A spokesperson said: “Please do not put your bins out, and if they are already out please get them back in as soon as possible.
“Some bins were already emptied this morning prior to the weather warning forcing the cancellation of today’s service.”
These collections will be rescheduled, with details to be revealed in due course.
The re3 recycling centre in Reading is closed.
On Schools, the council said: “The recommendation from both Brighter Futures for Children and Reading Borough Council is that, where possible, all schools and education settings in Reading should close today.
“Parents should make their own decisions on whether to send children to school, but should check with the school if it will be open.”
