SOME merry men (and women) know about pancake making … Japanese pancake making. And they are hoping you’ll visit their new Reading restaurant to make pancake day a regular fixture.

Fluffy Fluffy is arriving in The Village mall on Kings Road – formerly known as Kings Walk.

Its menu is Japanese souffle-style pancakes, something very different to what we’d flip on Shrove Tuesday.

About the size of a fist, and an inch or so thick, they are soft and, well, fluffy.

Their wibbly wobbliness comes because they are made from egg whites, rather than whole eggs.

At first glance you could be forgiven for thinking they were a scone, or an English muffin gone wrong, but the sweet smell will soon put your tastebuds in the right direction.

The knife and fork fold into them gently, pulling them apart reveals a gooey inside and it is a decadent treat.

Sweet, they are paired with all manner of treats: blueberry, tiramisu, Nutella, and strawberry are just some of the options.

The team promise 100% locally sourced ingredients for their pancakes.

They are Goldilocks portions: not too big and not too small, just as well given the potential for excessive calories from an over large portion.

Prices range from £8.95 to £10.50, and drinks are around the £4 mark.

The drinks menu includes Mango Iced Slushie and Mango & Passion Black Tea, as well as lemonades and sodas.

Each pancake is freshly made in the small, but perfectly formed kitchen, and it can take around 20 minutes to do so. Slow cooked, there is nothing else like it in Reading.

It’s a simple, straightforward counter service: enter from Kings Road, queue up, and you’re done.

Tables are downstairs, upstairs, and outside in The Mall means there is somewhere to sit while waiting, and takeaway options are available.

Reading is the third Fluffy Fluffy store in the UK, showing confidence in the town. It is also the largest branch, being able to seat up to 40 people.

It officially opens on Friday, September 8, at noon.

As part of the celebrations, it will give away 200 free drinks, and samples of a secret menu dish, Basque Burntop Cheesecake Bites.

A special yellow Fluffy Fluffy taxi will be driving around the town centre raising awareness of the new venue.

And outside the store there will be a balloon arch for people to take selfies with, tagging @fluffyfluffyuk on Instagram in the process.

Hussein Umar, UK Development Lead at Fluffy Fluffy UK, said: “We’re so excited for Fluffy Fluffy Reading’s grand opening to finally take place on Friday, September 8.

“We’ve been working very hard behind the scenes to make sure that our pancakes are the fluffiest ever, and our first ‘double decker’ store is looking amazing for all our fluffy friends in Reading.

“We can’t wait to bring our viral-sensation pancakes to The Village, as well as some newer, secret creations.”
