A care home in Reading has brought residents and children together for regular intergenerational sessions that can benefit young and old alike.
Shinfield View, which is part of the Berkley Care Group, runs weekly Tiny Feet sessions every Friday morning, offering sensory experiences where residents and young visitors engage in themed activities.
The programme was born out of a longstanding partnership with the local Honeysuckle Day Nursery, a collaboration that began nearly eight years ago.
Initially designed for preschoolers, the sessions have evolved to cater for babies up to three years old.
These sessions are held separately, ensuring everyone can engage fully and enjoy age-specific activities.
The sessions provide a special opportunity for residents to spend quality time with their families in a unique, supportive setting.
For some, it offers a chance to bond with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Residents who were formerly primary school teachers are particularly passionate about the sessions as they love the opportunity to share their knowledge and skills.
Laura McSoley, Shinfield View’s activities coordinator, said:
