On a beautiful late summer day, Shinfield Cricket Club brought its 2024 season to a close with the much-anticipated Junior Awards ceremony at the picturesque Manor Ground.

The event was a celebration of the club’s remarkable achievements over the season, including league titles and individual successes, as the local community came together to recognize the hard work and dedication of the club’s young cricketers, coaches, and volunteers.

Medals and trophies were awarded to outstanding performers across all age groups, with special pride taken in the club’s collective triumphs. Shinfield CC secured victories in the U15 and U11 leagues, as well as lifting the U13 T20 Cup, marking a stellar season for the club’s junior teams.

These accomplishments were the culmination of months of hard work by the players, backed by the tireless efforts of coaches and volunteers.

Chairman Dave Hare opened the ceremony with words of gratitude, thanking the volunteers, coaches, and parents who played an integral role in making this another successful season for the club. “It’s heartening to see how far we’ve come,” he said. “Our juniors continue to excel, and I urge all of them to keep working hard to take their game to the next level.”

The club’s success goes beyond the pitch. Many of its players are now part of the Berkshire county circuit, further highlighting the quality of talent being nurtured at Shinfield. Club Junior Section Secretary Arun Kumar underscored the club’s growth, pointing out that Shinfield now boasts more than 10 junior teams, ranging from U9 to U15, as well as a thriving U6 section. “Our junior section is going from strength to strength,” Kumar said. “It’s fantastic to see so many youngsters involved, and we’re committed to building on this momentum.”

Anurag Shukla, Girls’ Team Coordinator, emphasised the club’s dedication to promoting women’s cricket, acknowledging the increasing energy and enthusiasm around the girls’ teams. “Women’s cricket is a key focus for us, and we’re excited to keep growing this section and offer more opportunities for girls to thrive in the sport.”

The awards ceremony concluded with everyone enjoying a well-deserved pizza feast, reflecting on the season’s successes while looking forward to the upcoming autumn training sessions. The next phase of training begins on Sunday, 6th October at Crosfields School, and more details can be found on the club’s website at shinfieldcc.co.uk.

With an eye towards continued growth and success, Shinfield Cricket Club is already gearing up for the future, eager to build on the solid foundation laid this season.
