A man who repeatedly exposed himself to women and a teenage girl at a Berkshire railway station has admitted a series of offences.
Stephen Benyon, 49, of Sandy Lane, Caldicot, pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent exposure and one count of a public order offence at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 24 October. He is due to be sentenced at the same court on 17 December.
The conviction follows a series of indecent exposure incidents at Theale station dating back to 2024.
British Transport Police (BTP) said a 40-year-old woman was crossing the overbridge late at night in April 2024 when she was confronted by a man “exposing himself and masturbating while looking at her”. Another woman reported a similar incident that September.
Despite CCTV checks, enquiries and plain-clothes patrols, early leads were exhausted and the investigation was closed pending further information.
On 28 August 2025, a 16-year-old girl reported that she had been approached at the station by a man who exposed himself. The following month, one of the previous victims contacted police again after encountering the same man, who made comments that caused her distress.
A fresh investigation was launched, with officers returning to CCTV reviews, patrols and witness enquiries. Police also visited local pubs, showing staff a CCTV image of the suspect in the hope he would be recognised.
Benyon was arrested on 22 October after staff at a pub in Church Street identified him and contacted police. Officers arrived in an unmarked vehicle and detained him in the beer garden.
Det Sgt Antonio Civitillo thanked victims for reporting the incidents and praised pub staff for their quick action.
“The victims were going about their business as usual when Benyon targeted them for his own perverted sexual gratification, causing them considerable shock and distress,” he said.
“Sexual offences on the railway network will never be tolerated and we will always do everything we can to bring offenders to justice.”
BTP said it is possible there are further victims who have not yet come forward.
