A READING based performance group will be working ‘9 to 5’ to prepare their next musical show.

And early birds can take advantage of ticket discounts if they’re quick.

The Sainsbury’s Singers have chosen a 1980s sexual politics comedy for their next production.

9 to 5 The Musical tells the story of three female workmates infuriated by their sexist and egotistical boss, who fantasise about wreaking revenge on him.

Their dream turns into a reality as they hatch a plan to transform the office by kidnapping their supervisor.

Friendships grow, but an unexpected visit from the company CEO leads to a hilarious series of events.

Reading teacher’s rollercoaster challenge

Eve Macdonald from The Sainsbury’s Singers, said: “We’re still early on in rehearsals, but we’re already having great fun, and it’s coming on fabulously.

“There are some great themes of female empowerment, making things happen, and turning things around.

“It’s a really upbeat show.”

Numbers and lyrics for the musical were written by Country and Western singer Dolly Parton, who also starred in the film of 9 to 5.

“There are some great songs,” said Eve, “And lots of opportunities not only for the leads to enjoy singing, but big musical numbers for the chorus too.

“In previous years we have performed at The Hexagon and other Reading venues, but this year we are branching out, and are excited to take to the stage for the first time in Bracknell.

“We’re hoping to bring our Reading audience with us, and to win new ones from Wokingham and Bracknell too.”

The singers say that their comedy about standing up to patriarchy will have its audience dancing all the way home – blonde wig optional.

The event will take place at The Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park Arts Centre, later this year.

Performances are from Wednesday, October 30 through to Saturday, November 2.

Doors open at 7.45pm, with an additional Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.

Tickets cost £25 or £22 for concessions.

To take advantage of the early bird 20% discount tickets must be booked by Wednesday, July 31, using the code given on the website.
