READING FC manager Ruben Selles after the Royals suffered another late defeat on the road.

Cambridge United took all three points thanks to Fejiri Okenabirhie’s 83rd minute strike.

“I think we can take something from the game, but I don’t think the performance was good enough for us,” said Selles.

“I don’t think the standards were there. After their goal we were close to equalising but we need to do better.

“We have some games where we have been doing the things we are wanting to do and others where we haven’t done the things we have practised so we need to be more consistent in our performance.

“It’s not that we have been completely outplayed by anybody, it’s just one goal. We had our chances, they had their chances, they scored their goal and we didn’t.

“We are very focused on our own way to do things. We should defend the situation much better.”

The Royals go into the international break in 18th position on five points from their opening six matches.

Selles is now focused on the job in hand and is seeking improvement from his side after the international break.

He continued: “The task is different. Everyone knows what has been going on but talking about that is only going to be an excuse.

“We need to perform better and win football matches. We are competitive against any team but we need to find a way to win matches and compete away from home.

“I don’t know how far we can go with the team because there’s a lot of changes, the situation is not simple but we have shown we can win football matches.”
