Reading boss Ruben Selles heaped buckets of praise onto goal scorer and leading striker Sam Smith after his goal secured the victory against Bristol Rovers this afternoon.
Heroics at both ends from goal scorer Sam Smith and keeper Joel Pereira led Reading to a 1-0 victory against Bristol Rovers as they made it three wins in their last three league games.
“I think Sam is improving his level and today we saw one of his most complete games for us.” Selles exclaimed.
“It’s good that we have more than one option on positions and that means that the team is growing. Especially in that schedule when it’s very tight, we need to keep our energy levels. I think Sam is an exceptional player and he showed today.”
Selles praised his goalkeeper for some amazing late saves but acknowledged that the team should have done in the final 10 minutes of the game.
He explained: “I think I expect us to control the game a bit better, especially at the end. We defended as a team and at the end we have a goalkeeper there and that his job is to take the keep the ball out of the net and hit did well today.”
Selles also spoke his sides impressive run as they made it three wins from their last three games, as he looks ahead to the rest of the season.
“We know where we are as Reading FC. We take it one game at a time. The most important thing is that we continue getting points, we are almost at half of our target for the season, and we are feeling competitive in the league.”
He continued: “That is the most important thing. Now it’s three wins but we hope at some point that we will make it 7,8 or even 10.”
When asked if he caught up with former Royal Clinton Mola, Selles shared that he hadn’t had the chance to speak with him.
He said: “I have not seen Clinton today and that’s unlucky because I have him in great consideration. He played really well for us last season. He was one of our players and I will check if he’s still here now.”
