THE RSPCA is searching for homes for its cats … but not necessarily a two-up, two-down.
The animal charity says it has a number of feline friends who are more at home living outdoors rather than snuggling down on a lap.
These farm cats, also known as barnyard or stable cats, still need a loving location, but they need shelter, food, water and plenty of space to roam.
A spokesperson for the charity says it is more like becoming a guardian than a pet owner, as these cats aren’t comfortable with being close to people.
The RSPCA is trying to find homes for these cats before winter, so they can be sure they will have a warm place with food every day.
Suitable homes could include stables, farms, garden centres, nursing homes, and large gardens with shelters.
Whatever the location, it should offer the cat easy access at all times to a weatherproofed indoor setting, such as garages, sheds, barns, or outbuildings.
In cold weather there should be insulation or bedding to help them stay warm. The location should be hazard-free, and have no toxic chemicals or poisons around.
It should also be able away from busy roads and loud machinery, as well as hunting dogs.
