READING MPs have welcomed new government funding aimed at securing a new site for the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust received £500,000 from the government to complete work on selecting a site for relocation.
Work on choosing a new location is expected to be complete by March next year, by which time a business case should be submitted to the Trust’s board.
In a joint statement, Olivia Bailey MP, Yuan Yang MP, and Matt Rodda MP said: “We are delighted that the Royal Berks Foundation Trust has now received funding from the Government to complete this important work and that we have a timetable for when it will be completed.
“This is the next step in delivering a fully-funded state-of-the-art hospital for Reading. We will continue to work with the Trust and press Ministers to see it built as soon as possible.
“This Government is getting our NHS back on track, with significant investment and a radical programme of reform to cut bureaucracy.
“We’re already seeing the results, with waiting lists falling to their lowest level in two years and over four million more appointments delivered since June 2024, exceeding our two million target.”
